Portland - Our Volunteers

Minds Matter mentors are young, busy, energetic career individuals and graduate students who volunteer their time. Each mentor has made a personal commitment to provide guidance and friendship to a mentee.

Mentors often cite the opportunity to "give back" as their personal motivation.

Mentors work with their mentees for two hours each Saturday from September through May, excluding school district holidays. Mentors also contact their mentee during the week to inquire about homework assignments or simply to "check-in." When possible, mentors and mentees will work together from sophomore year through graduation from high school.

Mentors have diverse career backgrounds including: advertising, banking, medical research, consulting, education, law, marketing, non-profit and sales. Mentoring is personally rewarding and allows Portland area professionals to establish highly-leveraging friendship, community, and business connections.

For more information on becoming a mentor, please contact Turid Owren, Director of Mentors, turid@tonkon.com.
