Chicago - A Word from Management

Welcome to Minds Matter of Chicago! Minds Matter was starting in New York over 10 years ago, but has recently opened new Chapters in Chicago, Portland, and Denver. The 2007-2008 school year is Chicago's second year of operations and is on track for success.

So why Chicago? Similar to New York and Boston, Chicago has many inner cities that are often overlooked. Consequently, it has a large number of school districts in the public school system that can only offer so much, creating a need for the services that Minds Matter offers. Chicago is also a magnet for young professionals in the Midwest in the same way that New York is on the East Coast. As a result, there are large groups of young professionals living in the city that serve as an ideal pool for potential mentors. And finally, Chicago and the surrounding areas have a large number of colleges that will provide a strong pool of summer programs to target. Additionally, Chicago is centrally located so it will be easier for students to commute to east coast or west coast programs if they so desire.

This school year is on track for record success. We have doubled our mentor and mentee base and now the organization has over 40 hard-working volunteers. We have implemented new writing & critical thinking and SAT/ACT curriculum to continue pushing the students to prepare themselves for college applications. Finally, to measure our success we have started tracking mentee improvement rates across all curriculum and the initial results have been encouraging.
